In January 2015 our beautiful Callie moved to live in South Africa with our lovely friend Harry Blokbergen and his Golden Retrievers at kennel Gavalat.
It was such a sad day for us when Callie had to make her long journey but we tracked her flight throughout the night and once she landed at Cape Town airport it was such a relief to see that she was back on firm ground and within 15 minutes of landing she was safely with her new Daddy.
When she landed she was greeted by wall to wall sunshine and temperatures in their high 20's.
It took her a little time to adjust to the warm climate of South Africa as when she left us in the UK it was bearly above 5 degrees but she soon settled in as one of the family and quickly became good friends with Harry's boys Gryphin and Frodo as well as all of his other dogs.
Now she is used to the year long warm weather and enjoys her days lounging about in the sunshine all day long with the other dogs. Callie is very much like her mum Esther; she is very loving and confident and lets nothing bother her and just like her mum Esther she is very energetic. She quite happily plays with the other Gavalat Goldens all day long and has mastered of art of jumping the fence and getting into the what is supposed to be the out of bounds area of Harry's garden, much to his annoyance ;) Callie attended a handful of shows during her first few months in South Africa and was placed at them all including puppy and junior group wins as well as recieving some very promising critiques.
Callie won her first Challenge Certificate at just under 18 months old and has since gone on to gain her South African Championship title having won 21 CC's to date as well as mulitple Reserve CC's along the way.
She had a short break over the SA winter (UK summer) and returned to the ring in September by winning Reserve Best In Show at the Golden Retriever Club Of Transvaal Ch Sh
under breed specialist Christine Sandford (South Africa)
We couldn't be more prouder of our very special lady if we tried and although Callie lives over 6000 miles away she is still very much a big part of our life here at Applecote and holds a very special place in our hearts.
