Following  Amy's smooth and easy pregnancy in the early hours of Thursday morning she began the first stages of whelping. 19 .5 hours later of panting and being restless her waters broke and at that point we knew the puppies were ready to come out and meet the world.

The first puppy; a girl was born and it didn't take her too long to latch onto the milk bar. Half an hour later and the next little girl was born. Following a halt in proceedings we decided that as some time had past since the arrival of the second puppy and there was no sign of the next puppy we decided to take Amy to the vets to get her and the remaining puppies checked over. Thankfully all was ok and a little injection of oxytocin to get Amy's uterus contracting again did the trick as the next four puppies were born. Sadly though the 2nd little boy was born sleeping and despite our efforts we had to let him go over the rainbow bridge.  Having had a scan and an X-ray at the vets we knew the number of puppies that Amy was carrying and knew that there was another precious puppy still waiting to be born. So on our vets advice as by this time Amy was beginning to become tired we had no choice but to opt for a ceasarean section to get the last little one out. A little girl was born but unfortunately she had taken too much fluid on her lungs and sadly only lived for half an hour until she slowly passed away. So after a very long night Amy had 2 boys and 6 girls.

We couldn't wait to bring Amy back home from the vets to reunite her with her new family and that is where she has been ever since, curled up with her puppies in the whelping box and only leaving them when she really has to. She is a super mum, very attentive and makes sure that they are all clean and tidy. She is really making our job of looking after them extremely easy.....for the time being anyway ;)
